A Texas man who transported an 11-year-old girl from Maryland for sex has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Elmer Zelaya-Robles, 44 of Grand Prairie, Texas, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt on Monday.

According to his plea agreement, Zelaya-Robles took the girl from Prince George's County in February to other states, including Virginia and Tennessee.

Zelaya-Robles had sex at least twice with the girl and he planned to reside with her in Dallas, prosecutors said.

The girl called her mother and said she was with Zelaya-Robles, who was a friend of her family. The girl's parents called police, and a Tennessee highway trooper stopped Zelaya-Robles after an Amber Alert was issued, prosecutors said.
