A man convicted of shooting a drug store manager during a robbery attempt and leaving him paralyzed has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
Ricky Vinston, 55, of Washington, pleaded guilty in October to aggravated assault while armed and assault with intent to rob. He was sentenced Friday in D.C. Superior Court.
According to government evidence, on April 13, 2012, Vinston demanded at gunpoint that the manager of a Rite Aid store in northeast give him cash from a register.
As the manager struggled to open the register, Vinston shot the manager in the back at close range, prosecutors said.
The manager is partially paralyzed from the waist down, authorities said.
