18-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Shot in Maryland Backyard

An 18-year-old man died Thursday after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of home in Old Bowie, Maryland.

Devante Marcus King was discovered in the yard of a home on the 13000 block of 6th Street early Thursday, after neighbors heard gunshots and called police about 1:15 a.m., police said.

King, who lived just blocks away in the quiet community, was taken to a local hospital and died, Bowie Police Chief John Nesky and the Prince George's County Police Department confirmed.

A bullet tore through the front porch area of the house behind which King was found, homeowner James Carroll said.

"I'm sorry a thing like this had to happen, and I hope they do solve the case and bring the family some closure," he said.

Police do not believe the shooting of King was random; he likely was targeted, officials said. Investigators searched on Thursday for shell casings and any other evidence that could lead to an arrest.

No suspect information has been released by the PGPD, which is taking over the investigation.
