Man Killed at Southeast DC Church, Police Say

A man was murdered inside a southeast D.C. church, police say.

Someone found the man at the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in the 3000 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE about 8:15 a.m. The man had trauma to his head, police said.

D.C. Fire and EMS took the victim, later identified as 49-year-old James Albert Harling, to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have arrested and charged 37-year-old Perez Green, of Southeast, with "murder two while armed."

Police said the incident is not related to the church.

MBI Health Service, LLC, which provides mental health services, rents a space at the church. According to an employee at MBI Health Services, Harling and Green got into a fight. Harling would come to MBI's space at the church for breakfast and lunch and he sold cigarettes near the church, the employee said.
