Man Collapses, Dies During Traffic Stop

Medical Emergency Suspected

A man died after he experienced a medical emergency during a traffic stop in Howard County, Md., Saturday morning.

Police said a vehicle with suspended tags was pulled over on southbound Route 1 at the Route 100 West exit. Hakeem Muhammad, 51, of Baltimore, was found to be driving with suspended tags and provided false information about his identity.

The arresting officer placed Muhammad in handcuffs. At that time, he said he was not feeling well and collapsed to the ground.

The officer performed CPR until medical personnel arrived. Muhammad was transported to Howard County General Hospital and was pronounced dead.

Police are working with medical officials to confirm the exact cause of death.
