Man Charged With Infant's Death in Stafford Co.

Police: Infant died from significant head trauma

A 40-year-old man is facing a first degree murder charge in connection with the death of a infant in Stafford County, the sheriff's office said Tuesday.

Deputies say Duc Chau was baby sitting the 17-month-old boy on July 13 when he called 911 to report that the infant had been injured in a fall. Chau told authorities the boy tripped and fell when he left the room for a bottle of milk.

The child was flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where he died two days later. It was later determined that the infant died as a result of a significant head trauma allegedly caused by Chau.

In addition to the murder charge, Chau is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and two counts of child abuse. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
