Man Dies After Being Burned at Gas Station After Fumes Ignite

A man who was apparently lighting a cigarette while pumping gas died Sunday after his cigarette ignited gasoline fumes.

Prince George’s Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said the man was pumping gas at the Shell gas station located on East West Highway and Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale, Maryland.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was severely burned and was transported to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries. He died Sunday evening.

Brady said a good Samaritan acted quickly and extinguished the flames on the victim.
