Police say a man is in custody after he allegedly barricaded himself inside a Prince George's County apartment following a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning.

Police tell News4's Seth Lemon that the man was the driver in a hit-and-run accident in the 2500 block of Kent Town Place in Hyattsville at around 10 a.m. When officers tried to pull his vehicle over, the man reportedly jumped out of his car and ran into his own apartment.

Police negotiators spoke with the man as authorities evacuated and roped off the apartment complex. An adjacent shopping center was also roped off while a SWAT team arrived at the scene.

Police say the suspect finally surrendered to police. No one was injured.

The suspect is currently in custody and will be taken to the hospital for mental evaluation, according to police. Traffic and assault charges against him are pending.
