A Prince George's County woman was left with a big mess to clean up after a police chase ended with a car crashing into her house.

A man pursued by police for a traffic violation led police on a chase which ended when he barreled into an elderly woman's Suitland home Wednesday.

Police officers pulled over Shelton B. Edwards of northeast D.C. for a traffic violation in the 2200 block of Shadyside Avenue, but as an officer was approaching his car, Edwards sped off.

Police say within several blocks, Edwards lost control of his car and crashed into 79-year-old Hattie Beasley's basement.

"I was really shocked because I couldn't find out what the noise was," she said.

Edwards then ran from the scene, but was arrested shortly thereafter.

Crack cocaine and marijuana were retrieved from his car, police said.
