Man Attempted to Kidnap Maryland Girl on Her Way to School

Police are on alert after a teenager was nearly kidnapped on her way to her bus stop in Gaithersburg, Maryland, on Monday morning.

Investigators said the girl was walking from the Cider Mill Apartments, where she lives, when she was approached by a man. The man told the girl to shut up and tried to put a black bag over her head.

Police said the girl screamed, and the man ran away. Once she got to Watkins Mill High School, she notified the staff, who contacted police.

The man is described by police as a black male with a goatee, mid- to late 30s, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, and with a medium build. He was wearing black pants and a black-hooded sweatshirt with a red logo on it.

Police have increased their patrols in the area.

The school sent a letter to parents, reminding them to talk to their child about the importance of staying alert and walking to school with a friend.
