Police: Roof Attack Story Not True

Man tells police two men took his wallet, pushed him off parking garage

A man told Montgomery County police that two men dragged him to the fifth floor of a Wheaton parking garage, robbed him, and then pushed him off.  But police now say the man made up the story.

The 29-year-old told Montgomery County police that he was attacked Thursday afternoon as he walked through the parking lot of the J.C. Penney at Westfield Wheaton shopping mall on Viers Mill Road.

He told police the men dragged him up toward the top of the garage, took his wallet and cash and then pushed him off the edge, injuring his back and ankle.

Police say the man told them tree branches and the thick bed of mulch broke the man’s 40- to 50-foot fall.   Someone who saw the man on the ground called police and he was taken to the hospital.

However, on Friday police said the man made up the story.  It was unclear how he actually received his injuries.
