Man Arrested for UMD Grad Student Robbery

Suspect already incarcerated in Montgomery County

A 19-year-old man has been charged with the robbery of a University of Maryland graduate student in December.

Omiesam Nathaniel Ockiya of Silver Spring was charged with armed robbery, robbery, first degree assault, second degree assault, theft under $1,000, credit card theft and use of a firearm on the commission of a felony.

Police say that Ockiya and another man approached the victim on the night of  December 11 as he was walking into the Graduate Gardens apartment building on Rowalt Drive in College Park. One of the two robbers pulled a silver handgun and demanded the victim's property. The victim complied and the suspects left the area.

Police are still looking for the second suspect in the case. Ockiya is currently being held in Montgomery County after he was arrested for a separate violation.
