Man Accused of Strangling Fellow Mental Hospital Patient

A man charged with killing a fellow patient at a maximum security state mental hospital told police that he kissed the woman in her room, then put a string around her neck and pulled it tight, according to court documents.

Documents released Monday state that 46-year-old El Soundani El-Wahhabi, also known as Saladin Taylor, told police in an interview that he and 45-year-old Susan Sachs struggled until she stopped breathing.

Maryland State Police said Sachs's roommate at Clifton T. Perkins State hospital in Jessup did not notice anything amiss when she entered their room late Saturday night. But in the morning, the roommate alerted the head nurse, who found Sachs face down in her bed with a long shoe lace around her neck.

Sachs and El-Wahhabi were both committed after trials for murder.
