CharmCard, SmarTrip Join Forces

New CharmCard could be a cheaper alternative to the SmartCard

Maryland now has its own version of Metro's SmarTrip card.

The Maryland Transit Administration debuted its electronic CharmCard Tuesday.

It can be used on Maryland’s public bus, subway and light-rail systems. It can also be used on Metro and some regional bus systems, including Ride On and the Fairfax Connector.

The one holdout, though, is MARC trains and commuter buses.

The convenience is extended to SmarTrip users, as well, who can use their cards anywhere CharmCards are accepted.

The card costs $2.50. Or you can buy one online at CVS Stores for $10 with $7.50 preloaded on it. Metro’s SmarTrip card still costs $5.
