Loudoun County Physics Teacher Charged With Public Drunkenness

Incident happened at 2:45 p.m. on Monday

While students at a South Riding middle school hit the books, the Loudoun County Sheriff's office said a teacher was hitting the bottle.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to J. Michael Lunsford Middle School on Monday at 2:45 p.m., after receiving a report of public drunkenness.

A member of the school's staff had called in, believing a colleague was drunk at work.

Authorities said that deputies discovered a physics teacher, Radhakrishnan Sivaramapillai, under the influence of alcohol.  He was arrested for public intoxication.

Law enforcement told News4 the teacher was so drunk he could not legally operate a vehicle.

According to the J. Michael Lunsford school's website, Mr. Sivaramapillai has previously taught in Fairfax County Public Schools.  The 46-year-old is a resident of Centreville.

Sivaramapillai has resigned from Loudoun County Public Schools, News4's Elaine Reyes reported.
