Lockdown Lifted at Va. High School After Report of Armed Person; Guard Mistook Headphones for Gun

A high school in Leesburg, Virginia, was briefly on lockdown Wednesday morning after a report of an armed person on campus, which turned out to be a false alarm.

Loudoun County High School was placed on lockdown just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, a school security guard thought he saw a juvenile outside with a gun, but the only thing he had was a pair of headphones.

The Leesburg police chief told News4's David Culver that the headphones were folded up and pointed downward, and that the item was underneath the person's hand. The chief said he saw security video of the incident and that he didn't think the guard's concern was unreasonable.

The student has been released from police custody.
