Nearly 6,000 teachers in one of the country's most affluent counties were handed slips referencing possible staff reductions.

The "Reduction in Force" slips notified Loudoun County's 5,800 teachers layoffs are possible in a district faced with a $38 million budget shortfall.

Other cost-cutting measures could include reduction of staff, closure of four small schools and the elimination of some sports.
