Citizens of Mechanicsville, Md., got a blast from the past when they found a lost horse wandering around in the early hours of Friday morning.
The riderless horse was found in the area of Reeves Road and Baptist Church Road. Town deputies were notified and found the horse, who appeared to be quite friendly.
After initial efforts to find the horse's owner failed, animal control took the horse into their custody. But they were able to locate the owner, an Amish man from Mechanicsville, around 11 a.m. Friday, animal control said.
The horse was returned safely to its owner.
Mechanicsville has a large Amish population, an animal control official said. The Amish settlement in Mechanicsville is one of only three Maryland Amish communities, according to Amish America.
