Long Time DC Restaurant Closes for Good

A Washington institution closed up shop Saturday night for good.

Famous Luigi's on 19th Street, Northwest served its last meal. The classic Italian restaurant was started by immigrant Luigi Calvi back in 1943.

The most recent owner is Calvi's great niece Deborah, who lived above the restaurant as a child. She said the restaurant is facing growing debts and increased competition.

Bruzzo said she plans to write a book about her family's history.
