Local Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Victim is a casualty of an IED blast

A local soldier was killed while fighting the war in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Benjamin Park, 25, of Fairfax Station, Va., was killed Friday in a blast from an improvised explosive device in Kandahar.

Park was an infantryman assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.

He joined the Army in August 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2010.

Park's awards and decorations include a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon, and a Combat Infantry Badge and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.
