Local School Districts Give Up Presidents Day Holiday

After a slew of snow days this winter, five local school districts are giving up the Presidents Day holiday and sending kids to school Monday.

Charles and Saint Mary's counties in Maryland, as well as Fairfax and Frederick counties and Fredericksburg schools in Virginia, will hold school Monday.

Even before last week's big winter storm, area school districts had been concerned about getting the mandated number of school days in. Arlington had already turned some scheduled half-days into full days.

Alexandria schools may have to add minutes to the school day, and Fauquier County school officials say they are considering cutting recess to make up for lost time.
