More than 100 students from three local colleges teamed up to enter a national competition.
The students from Catholic University, the George Washington University and American University built a one-of a-kind energy efficient home.
They call themselves Team Capital DC.
They're entering the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, a national competition.
Some of the material they used to build their house came from an old church that was deconstructed.
The home operates on 20 percent less energy and water than a standard house.
Twenty collegiate teams from around the country are competing.
The contest will be held Oct. 3-13 in Irvine, Calif.
