BETHESDA, Md. -- A 42-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday afternoon after apparently being struck by lightning on the golf course at Congressional Country Club.

The man may have been trying to get off the course to seek shelter from a thunderstorm. It is unknown if he was struck directly or in the vicinity of a lightning strike.

The man's condition is unknown. He appeared to be alert and conscious when he was airlifted from Suburban Hospital to the Washington Hospital Center, News4's Jackie Bensen reported.
