Lightning pounded the roof of a home in Gaithersburg, Maryland, during Wednesday evening's severe storms, causing a massive fire that fire officials say has completely destroyed the house.
One woman was inside the home in the 200 block of Midsummer Drive at the time of the fire and made it out unharmed, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.
Videos and photos from Piringer show the three-story house has been completely gutted by the fire and almost the entire roof is gone.
Piringer said a family of four lived in the home. It's estimated the home sustained more than $700,000 in damages, making it a complete loss.
Lightning wasn't the only issue during the storm. Piringer said the quick-moving thunderstorms "wreaked havoc" on the county, bringing wires down, sparking transformer fires and causing power outages. The county received 100 emergency calls in just one hour, according to Piringer.
As of 11 p.m., there are more than 1,000 Pepco customers without power in Montgomery County.

More than 700 are without power in Stafford County, according to Dominion Virginia Power.
