Attorneys representing the man accused of intern Chandra Levy's slaying plan to call an expert on jailhouse informant sociology as a witness in the trial scheduled to begin in October.

Defense lawyers submitted court paperwork Tuesday announcing their plans to call Loyola Law School Professor Alexandra Natapoff to testify about cooperating witnesses, including how often they fabricate testimony.

Prosecutors said earlier this summer they may call as many as four people who have served prison sentences with Ingmar Guandique to testify against him at his trial.

Guandique has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other counts filed in Levy's death.

His attorneys said in court filings they want Natapoff to testify about an informant's expectation of rewards in exchange for testimony.
