Shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday a 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle as he crossed Route 198 at Russett Green East.

Jaelin D. Ashe, of Carriage Walk Lane in Laurel, was on his way to join his girlfriend on a bus ride to school, reported News4's Pat Collins. He got up early to walk to her stop to ride with her this morning, the victim's father said.

He was a freshman at Meade High School and played football, Collins reported.

Police say that the victim appeared to be crossing against the pedestrian traffic signal and the striking vehicle had a green light. The driver remained at the scene.

However, it's a dangerous intersection where a memorial still stands to a 2009 fatality.
