Latroia Smith, D.C. Mom of 3, Found Dead in Abandoned, Burning Apartment

Cause of death not yet determined, though family suspects foul play

A 25-year-old mother of three young boys was found dead Sunday morning inside a burning home in Southeast D.C.

Police have not yet released the cause of Latroia Smith's death, but homicide detectives have been involved in the investigation.

Smith's body was found Sunday just after 6 a.m. in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE. Since then, the apartment where she was found has been under police guard and cordoned off by crime scene tape.

Family members told News4 they believe foul play was involved in the young mother's death.

"The detectives just left here. They're pretty good and I expressed to them that [they] need to find this person immediately," her cousin Taneka Smith said.

One of her friends, who asked not to be seen on TV, says he thought Smith was heading to a party the night before she was found dead.

"Last time I talked to her, she said she was at a party," he said.
