A security guard prevented a kidnapping at a McDonald's in Silver Spring, Md., Friday afternoon, the Montgomery County Police Department reported.

About 1:30 p.m. a heavyset man believed to be in his 50s grabbed a 13-year-old boy waiting at the counter of the restaurant at 8407 Colesville Road, police said.

The man tried to drag the boy out, at one point saying he was a police officer and the boy was under arrest, but a security guard intervened and the man walked away toward the Metro station.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance image should call detectives at 240-773-5400.
