Katie Couric Named UVA Commencement Speaker

Journalist graduated from the school in 1979




    Television journalist Katie Couric will be the University of Virginia's spring commencement speaker.
    The university said Tuesday that Couric will deliver the commencement address May 20. Couric graduated from U.Va. in 1979.

      Former U.Va. women's basketball standout Val Ackerman will speak at the previous day's valedictory exercises. Ackerman graduated in 1981 and was the first president of the Women's National Basketball Association in 1996. She ran its daily operations for eight seasons.
