D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier may be asked to testify in a lawsuit stemming from mass arrests of hundreds of protesters 10 years ago, according to a ruling from U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola,who said he may seek Lanier's testimony regarding a conversation about evidence in the case.
The conversation centered on who would investigate an apparent attempt to delete an electronic version of the "running resume,'' or a transcript of the events and the police response to them.
Facciola is acting as special master in a lawsuit stemming from arrests of demonstrators at Pershing Park during 2002 protests of the International Monetary Fund/World Bank meeting. Though most protesters who sued have reached multi-million-dollar settlements, several former George Washington University students who were arrested still have pending cases.
