A Maryland judge abducted by her former boyfriend last year is retiring.
Circuit Court Judge Audrey Creighton is stepping down just months after being elected to a 15-year term on the bench.
“I can confirm she’s submitted her letter to the governor," Chief Judge John Debelius said. "She’s calling it a retirement.”
Creighton’s retirement will take effect July 3, but she will not be hearing any more cases before then, Debelius said. “She has some leave time she’ll be using."
Creighton had been hearing only a limited of number of cases since the news of her abduction and assault by a former boyfriend made headlines last year.
That case raised questions about her relationship with a violent felon who she once represented.
In May 2014, Rickley Joshua Senning assaulted the judge, then stole her car with her inside it and crashed near a supermarket on Darnestown Road in Germantown. Creighton was able to get away by jumping out of the car and running to a nearby store for help. Several years earlier, Creighton served as Senning's public defender in a trespassing case.

Senning was sentenced to three years for the abduction.
