Judge: $15 Minimum Wage Initiative Can Proceed in DC

A judge has ruled that supporters of a $15 minimum wage in the District of Columbia can move forward with their effort to get the issue on the ballot in November.

The effort had been challenged in court by the former president of the D.C. Chamber of Commerce. Superior Court Judge Maurice Ross ruled in January that the issue couldn't appear on the ballot because the city's elections board didn't have enough members when it authorized the ballot measure. But Ross reversed that ruling on Monday.

Supporters of the higher wage will now have to collect 25,000 valid signatures from District voters by July to get it on the ballot.

Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser announced last week that she supports a $15 minimum wage.
