Join NBC4 for the Best Buddies Challenge Saturday

NBC4 is proud to play a part in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge Saturday on the National Mall.

News 4’s Veronica Johnson will join in as participants get active to raise funds for the intellectually disabled.

The D.C. event is part of Best Buddies International, a global volunteer organization that promotes social and vocational opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The central mission of Best Buddies is to foster one-to-one friendships between intellectually disabled people and volunteers who range from middle school to post-collegiate. The organization also sponsors leadership development and integrated employment for the people it seeks to help.

Saturday’s challenge will include several different events, and is headlined by scenic bike tours around the district led by cycling legend George Hincapie.

It also features The Carl Lewis Challenge 5K, a run/walk around the monuments led by the Olympic gold medalist himself.

After the athletic events, participants will enjoy complimentary massages, hot showers, food, and an open bar.

NBC4 will have live coverage of the challenge on all of our Saturday morning shows. For more information on the event, visit the Best Buddies Challenge website, and check out our Changing Minds project for more information on mental health issues and activities in our community.
