Woman Sexually Assaulted by Uber Driver in Arlington: Police

Police say a woman was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver in Arlington early Sunday morning.

The woman, who told police she was intoxicated, got into an car she hadn't requested via the Uber app, police said. Sometime between 2:45 a.m. and 4:03 a.m., the driver agreed to give her a ride from D.C. even though they had not connected through the app.

When the woman was unable to pay the fare at the 900 block of South Randolph Street, the driver sexually assaulted her, police said. The victim fled to a friend's house nearby.

The suspect is described as a Middle Eastern man with short, curly black hair and a goatee. He was wearing a dark polo shirt and jeans at the time of the incident.

Uber released a statement, saying, "We have contacted the authorities to offer our support in their investigation, and we continue to gather more information.

"Our thoughts are with the victim during this difficult time," the company said.

Two women were recently assaulted in separate attacks in Arlington. Arlington police are investigating whether those attacks are linked to a sexual assault in the Court House area.

In May, a woman was abducted and nearly sexually assaulted by a driver who had an Uber sticker on his window. That driver was described as a Middle Eastern man with a light complexion, slim build and short black hair with a widow's peak. His car was described as a black four-door sedan with a gray or beige interior.
