Interstate 95 at Fairfax County Parkway to Shut Down Overnight Friday
Closures to begin 9 p.m. Friday; all lanes to close by midnight
A section of southbound Interstate 95 will shut down completely overnight Friday to allow crews to conduct work for the new I-95 Express Lanes.
The closures will be in the area of Fairfax County Parkway.
The right lane of I-95 will close at 9:30 p.m. Friday, with a second lane to follow at 11 p.m. All lanes are expected to be closed by midnight. Lanes will begin reopening at 6 a.m. Saturday, with all reopened by 9 a.m.
In the event of bad weather, the closures will occur overnight Saturday instead.
The following detours will be in place during the closures:
- I-95 southbound thru-traffic: diverted to keep left and enter the HOV lanes near mile marker 169
- I-95 southbound local traffic: detoured to Backlick Road (exit 167) to access the Fairfax County Parkway via Furnace Road or Lorton Road via exit 1
- Fairfax County Parkway south to I-95 south: continue on the parkway to Telegraph Road to Route 1 south
- Fairfax County Parkway north to I-95 south: continue on the parkway north to the loop ramp of I-95 to the parkway south to Telegraph Road, to Route 1 south
More road closures are scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 26-30.
