Insufficient Tire Tread Caused Fatal Pedestrian Accident: Police

Zenaida Ines Jimenez, 58, struck and killed while walking dog

Police say a car's old tire caused an accident in Woodbridge last weekend that killed a woman who was out walking her dog.

The driver of the car, Mohamed-Kareem Mohamed, 21, has been charged with reckless driving and insufficient tire tread dept.

Police say Mohamed was driving his 1998 BMW near the intersection of Old Bridge Road and Clipper Drive shortly before 9:40 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of the car. The vehicle ran onto the sidewalk, striking 58-year-old Zenaida Ines Jimenez, who was walking her dog.

Jimenez was transported to an area hospital, where she died shortly after.

Mohamed, of Woodbridge, remained on the scene.

Authorities say a tire on the BMW had insufficient tread, causing the car to lose control on the wet pavement.

Jimenez's dog was not injured and was released to family members.
