It apparently pays to live in Virginia or Maryland. And it pays extremely well.

Maryland and Virginia counties occupy seven of the 10 richest counties in America, Newsweek reports.

Loudoun County in Virginia tops the list for the third straight year, with a median household income of more than $114,000. Only 16 percent of Loudoun households make less than $200,000 a year. The county also boasts an unemployment rate of only five percent.

Virginia has two other counties on the list, and Maryland has four.

    Here's the complete top 10.

    1. Loudoun County, Va.
    2. Fairfax County, Va.
    3. Howard County, Md.
    4. Morris County, N.J.
    5. Arlington County, Va.
    6. Montgomery County, Md.
