I-97 Closed for Accident, Four People Injured

Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County remains closed as emergency crews deal with a single-car accident early Sunday.

Authorities said an SUV crashed on the ramp from northbound I-97 heading to Route 32 around 8:22 a.m. A Facebook post from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported three people were ejected from the truck and a fourth person was trapped inside the vehicle.

The patient inside the truck was rescued and taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore via helicopter with critical, life-threatening injuries. Three other people were taken by ground to Shock Trauma.

Two of those people were critically injured and one was severely injured.

Traffic is being diverted onto Route 32 while Maryland State Police continue to investigate the crash. Anne Arundel County police reported I-97 was reopened around 11:35 a.m.
