Police say just before 1 a.m. a state trooper began pursuing a black sedan traveling south on Interstate 95 in Prince William County, after the vehicle went off the road and struck the cement wall multiple times.

The driver refused to pull over, and eventually entered a rest area.  The sedan crashed into a ditch and caught fire, according to police.

Police say the driver then aimed a handgun at troopers as they attempted to help him.  The man eventually surrendered.

The driver has been identified as Steven C. Murray, 54, of Washington, D.C.  Murray has been charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, driving under the influence of drugs, illegal possession of Oxycontin, hit and run, reckless driving, attempting to elude a police officer, possession of stolen property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Murray has also been charged with being a fugitive from justice due to an outstanding warrant in Charles County, Md.
