Husband Found Dead After Wife Killed in Herndon Hit-and-Run

Police found three children home alone

The husband of a woman killed in a hit-and-run crash has also been found dead, police say.

The body of Fitsum Abrha Gebretatios, 32, was discovered in a creek that runs through woods parallel to Center Street in Herndon, Va. His body was found around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gebretatios' wife, 35-year-old Simret Tekle Woldetensae, was found dead in a parking lot in the 600 block of Center Street just after midnight Wednesday.

"At the scene they found a woman who had been struck by a vehicle," Herndon police Lt. Ron Thunman said. "They summoned rescue units. She was pronounced dead at the scene."

Three young children, left alone at Woldetensae's home, were discovered by police when they tried to notify her next-of-kin. At that point, police put out a description and image on Gebretatios (pictured) and began a search for him.

The children were in good health and were turned over to Child Protective Services.

A black Toyota Camry found near the scene of Woldetensae's death was registered to Gebretatios. It had apparently hit several other parked cars, but was empty when time police arrived.

The Camry is being processed for evidence, authorities said. They are also asking anyone with information to call the Herndon Police Department at 703-435-6846.
