Hung Jury in Sex Abuse Trial of Former High School Teacher, Coach

A jury could not reach a verdict in the trial of a former high school football coach and teacher who admitted to having sexual contact with a student at a Beltsville high school.

Andre Brown was charged with sexual abuse of a minor.

He was arrested last year after a 17-year-old female student accused him of sexually abusing her on the grounds of High Point High School in Beltsville.

Prince George's County Police say Brown asked the teen to accompany him to the locker room during homecoming weekend in 2013.

The girl later came forward to police and reported the crime.

Brown admitted involvement with the student in a videotaped police interview played in court but claimed the relationship was consensual.

Prosecutors plan to pursue a retrial June 29.

Brown was placed on paid leave by the school system following his arrest. The school system would not comment on his status Tuesday.

Brown had been a special-education teacher at High Point. He was fired as the football coach following the 2013 season.
