Human Bones Found Beachside in Ocean City

A tourist found parts of a skeleton in Ocean City

Authorities are investigating human bones that washed up on the beach in Ocean City, Md.

A nurse first discovered the bones Wednesday between North Division Street and Fourth Street. Two days later, police confirmed the skeleton definitely was human remains.

“We are in the process of making an identification and cause of death,” Ocean City Police Chief Bernadette DiPino told Delmarva Now.

More bones were found and recovered by the police later that evening and the next day, DiPino added. A Salisbury resident notified police about discovering a bone that may be related.

Officers are focusing on the next phase of the investigation.

Police will next comb missing persons reports in hopes of making a match to the remains. DNA from the missing will be gathered by investigators and sent to Texas for forensic analysis. Investigators will consider missing people from as far north as New Jersey, she [DiPino] said.

The investigation could last the next month or two, the chief said.
