Howard County police were busy on the highways Thursday.

A man in a white pickup truck led police on a chase on Route 32 Thursday afternoon. Police attempted to stop the truck on an open warrant for theft for 40-year-old Stephen Zombro, but Zombro fled, police said.

The truck weaved on the roadway and struck several squad cars before police were able to box the truck in and ram it into a guardrail to disable it.

Zombro immediately emerged from the truck with his hands, and police took him into custody.

One police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Howard County General Hospital.

Zombro was taken to Howard General for evaluation and appears to have no serious injuries.

Police internal affairs are investigating the arrest. Chief William McMahon said he has seen video of the arrest and is concerned about some actions taken.

Zombro faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, assaulting law enforcement officers, possession of heroin and crack cocaine and reckless endangerment.

Earlier Thursday, Howard County police chased three bank robbers through Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties into Montgomery County, where one was shot and killed by police. Police are searching for the other two.

  • HoCo Citizen Wednesday, Mar 4 at 8:19 AM FLAG COMMENT Just wondering when the Chief of the Enforcers of Civility is going to make a statement in regard to the arrest of Stephen Zombro (November 2008). The Officer is question is still on admin leave, and it appears that the Police Department, yet again, is going to sweep the ill behavior of one of their own under the rug... • Anonymous Thursday, Feb 26 at 3:27 PM FLAG COMMENT Just another instance of something the Enforcers of Civility will sweep under the rug... This happened back in November, and ironically it has disappeared off the media's radar. The officer in question is still on admin leave. I know him personally, and he's always been quick to become aggressive and forceful in and outside of work. Enough's enough.
  • Anonymous Thursday, Dec 4 at 2:24 PM FLAG COMMENT i like dan's comment. i don't understand why so many agree with the criminal. maybe he shouldn't have been out of jail then this incident never would have occurred. i'm surprised some haven't considered pointing fingers at the judges. might as well, fingers are pointing in every other direction. why not at the person that allowed his freedom.
  • Dan Monday, Dec 1 at 5:42 PM FLAG COMMENT I am sure none of you have called the police for anything. I marvel at the tens of thousands of dollars wasted on criminals like this. If he ran your family off of the road and police did not chase you all would be the first to seek out one of these scary attorneys to sue the City, County or State as well as any other person that could get you a dime. Where is the waste? I think in the minds of people like sveral of you. None ... MORE >
  • Mark Monday, Dec 1 at 11:36 AM FLAG COMMENT Does anyone else marvel at the tens of thousands of dollars in cop salaries just milling around the area. It would only take a couple of people to handle the situation but they have dozens. I guess living off of the government teet is sweet.
