Howard Co. Man Shoots, Kills Alleged Intruder

A man in Howard County, Maryland, shot and killed a Virginia man who allegedly tried to break into his home, police say.

Charles Dorsey, 56, and his wife were asleep inside their home on the 14000 block of Carriage Mill Road in Woodbine about 1 a.m. Sunday when a man began pounding on the door, Howard County police said.

The man wasn't wearing a shirt or shoes, police said.

The residents told police they shouted at the man to leave repeatedly. As the intruder tried to get in, Dorsey shot him once, police said.

Gerardo Alberto Espinoza, 46, was pronounced dead. Police said he may have been staying at a friend's house nearby.

No one else was injured in the shooting, police say. No charges have been filed.

Howard County police continue to investigate.
