Police in Fredericksburg, Va., are searching for the person who set a homeless man on fire as he slept under the Chatham Bridge early Saturday morning.

A passerby saw the victim walking on William Street after the attack and called 911. The victim said he did not know who set him on fire, police said.

The man suffered significant burns on his left arm and torso. Investigators collected evidence from the scene that included a burned blanket and clothing belonging to the victim, according to police.

The man was initially taken to Mary Washington Hospital. Because of the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Medical College of Virginia.
