Police May Have Break in Tragic Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed Groom-to-Be on BW Parkway

Police say they may have a break in a horrific hit-and-run crash that killed a groom-to-be and severely injured his fiancee on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway earlier this month.

Rick Warrick was changing a tire when he was struck and killed in the crash as his teenagers looked on from the car. His fiancee, who was holding a flashlight for him, was also struck by the car, which fled the scene.

Now, Park Police officials say they have recovered what they believe is the vehicle involved in the crash. They are also speaking to a person of interest in this case, believed to be the driver of the car.

Since the crash, Park Police have been working with the U.S. Attorney’s office to continue the investigation.

Jewel Pearce, Warrick's fiancee, suffered two broken legs, a broken pelvis and a fractured skull. She continues to recover from the crash, but it hasn't been easy. "Can't just find out that somebody died next to you and live OK," she told News4 on Feb. 5.

"And I was like, 'Roll him over and make sure he can breathe,'" Pearce said. "And they kept checking him. And then we were just out there for a very long time in the cold."

No passersby stopped to help.

"I just know that cars just kept going, and nobody stopped, and they were waving, trying to get people to stop, but nobody stopped." Pearce said.

After the crash, Warrick's terrified teenagers called 911 -- and, at one point during the call, Warrick's teenaged daughter was told to "stop whining."

"OK, let's stop whining. OK, let's stop whining. It's hard to understand you... two people were struck, correct?" the operator said.

A Give Forward page has been established for Pearce's benefit.
