A high school in Montgomery County was locked down Friday because of a rumor of a gun in the building.
No gun was found, police said.
A student at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md., was rumored to be carrying a gun for protection, fearful of retribution for an off-campus fight, News4's John Schriffen reported. That student was removed from class and the school was placed under Code Red while police searched the school.
Authorities were contacted after a student heard the rumor and told a parent.
The lockdown has ended.
