High School Junior Dies in Maryland Crash

Dalente Glenn Clark had purchased car only days earlier

A high school junior died in a single-vehicle accident in Clinton Wednesday afternoon, while driving a car he'd purchased only days earlier.

Dalente Glenn Clark, 17, was a junior at Surrattsville High School and a member of the football team.

His aunt, Crystal Jackson, told News4's Jackie Bensen that Clark had recently gotten a job in a local restaurant in order to buy his own car, a white Acura that he proudly purchased just last Friday.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, police received a call that Clark had crashed in the 11900 block of Brandywine Road in Clinton. For unknown reasons, Clark ran off the road and crashed into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson said her nephew was a wonderful and smart kid.

"We are saddened by the loss of Dalente Clark, a junior at Surrattsville High School," Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alvin Crawley said in a statement. "Dalente, known affectionately by his peers as 'Glen,'was a member of the JROTC and the Surrattsville football team. He will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest condolences to Dalente’s friends and family, including his younger brother, who is a sophomore at Surrattsville High School. Grief counselors will be available to assist our students, teachers and staff for as long as necessary."

The twisting stretch of Brandywine Road is known for crashes. One resident told News4 he placed multi-hundred-pound rocks placed in his front yard to protect his house.
