High Point High School Teacher Andre Brown Accused of Sexually Abusing Student

A 32-year-old teacher and former coach at a Beltsville high school is accused of sexually abusing a 17-year-old student.

Prince George's County Police say Andre Brown, a teacher at High Point High School, asked the teen to accompany him to the locker room during homecoming weekend last September.

"Even if the act was consensual, he's sort of a guardian with the victim, any sexual contact is entirely inappropriate," Lt. Bill Alexander with Prince George's County Police said.

The girl came forward to police and reported the crime. Brown was arrested Thursday and admitted his involvement in the incident, police said.

He's facing sex abuse of a minor charges, and is behind bars.

Brown worked as a special education teacher and had coached the school's football team last season.

"That was his dream, he wanted to become a principal," Brown's grandfather said. "He came back to give back to his school as a head coach and then out the blue skies this pops up. I can't believe it's happened."

Brown graduated from High Point in the 1990s.

Prince George's County Schools released the following statement Friday:

"When allegations of misconduct arise, the school system's procedure is to remove the employee from their current position during the investigation. The employee is placed on administrative leave pending the outcome."

Police said they have no reason to believe Brown had inappropriate contact with any other girls.
