Herndon Man Wins $5 Million in Virginia Lottery

1-40-42-56-62 -- Those numbers won a Herndon, Virginia man $5 million dollars in the Virginia Mega Millions drawing Tuesday.

The odds of winning are 1 in nearly 20 million, but Andy Ciaccio is one of four people in the Commonwealth of Virginia to win at least $1 million in the Mega Millions in just the past two months.

Ciaccio was at work when he checked the winning numbers in the June 12 Mega Millions drawing. That’s when he discovered he had matched the first five numbers, missing only the Mega Ball number.

Usually, missing the Mega Ball number means $1 million, but Ciacco paid an extra dollar for the Megaplier, which increased his prize to five times the original amount.

“I was speechless,” Caccio said in a press release from Virginia Lottery. “I thought, ‘This can’t be!’”

He bought the winning ticket at Sheetz at 600 Blackwell Road in Warrenton, just across the street from his workplace at County Chevrolet, where he works as a finance officer. He used easy pick and allowed the machine to randomly select the number on his ticket.

He returned to the store Friday and collected his check from the Virginia Lottery Executive Director, Paula Otto. He shared the prize with his two sons, who each recieved $500,000.

The store also received a $50,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
